Graphing inquiry data!

Use the data from the purple world map in your inquiry books to create a visual representation (a graph).

Choose the task that best suits you. You should be in the pit at some point throughout the session! 🙂

 

* Create a bar graph to show the literacy rates in a variety of countries. You will need to decide how you will organise the data e.g. group the countries into the colour coded sections (above 99%, below 50% etc.) or choose 5 countries that you want to focus on etc. Remember to label the axis of your bar graph and give it a title. This must be done neatly and accurately in your maths scrap book.

You then need to research to see if you can find any clues as to why certain country’s statistics are the way that they are and write them under your bar graph.

Remember to label your graph and give it a title. This must be done neatly and accurately in your maths scrap book.

 

*** Create a comparative bar graph that shows the literacy rates for each country (choose at least 5) and show the difference between males and females or adult and youth (or even both!). Use the data below to help you. There is also an example of what a comparative graph should look like

Once completed, convert your percentages into fractions and decimals and show your thinking.

Remember to label your graph and give it a title. This must be done neatly and accurately in your maths scrap book.

Do you have a key? Maybe it needs something more powerful than just a key.

Did you find the door somewhere forbidden or is it a door you see every day?

Are you on the right side of the door or have you gone to a place you cannot return from?

Are you alone, surrounded by others or searching for someone/something?

Are there consequences for your actions?

Be as creative as you can and let your brain wander through the possibilities! Use figurative language to bring your writing to life!
